Bird Quest Along Nepal Sikkim Border : Barsey Okhrey Uttaray

This part of west Sikkim is famous for birding because of the magnificent Rhododendrons that bloom in the spring and summer months. All the miscellaneous babblers and warblers along with hundreds of passerines come to devour the contrasting rhododendron. Rhododendron attracts insects as well, some arrive to feed on those insects as well. The months of April, May, and June are very busy months for the birds as well as for the birdwatchers. Some birds which are dependent on bamboo species are also found here. Golden-breasted Fulvetta, Fire-tailed Myzornis, Fulvous Parrotbill, Black-breasted parrotbill, Brown Parrotbill, Spotted Laughingthrush, Black-faced Laughingthrush, Scaly Laughingthrush are seen in bigger flocks. Bird Photographers get a nice opportunity to photograph birds on single bamboo strands, without any obstruction. It is heaven for bird photographers as well. Birds from the Singalila range, i.e. Red Crossbill, and Collared Grosbeak are easy to get here. Our expert birding guides and tour leader would assist you to show you all the birds on your asked list.

Day-1 Birding groups and bird photographers would be picked up from Siliguri or Bagdogra. After that, a journey of 5 hours by road has to be made. Overnight stays would be arranged at Barsey for the next few nights.
Day-2 to 5 Here in these four days, we would hike inside the Barsey Rhododendron Sanctuary and explore all the birding trails in it. Some morning and afternoon birding sessions would be arranged in nearby birding villages of Okhrey, Uttarey, Hilley, etc. These places have natural bird hides and resident species are almost regular visitors. Come join us to experience hide photography of birds in Sikkim. We would also make some nocturnal birding sessions for this west Sikkim itinerary for Owls and Nightjars in the nearby forests.
